Candle

Wax, steel balls, pipe, steel, hardware, light;  1996;  5’x5’x6’

Welded steel, steel pipe and hardware are used to support a 14” candle, made with steel balls inside.  As the candle melts, the steel balls fall on the floor.  A bright light is focused on the candle.  A stack of candles, one for each day of the piece’s exhibition, sits on the floor, shrinking as the month progresses.  This art consumes itself over the course of its showing.  The steel balls are mesmerizing as they threaten to fall, and mildly dangerous on the floor.
